Women in Technology (WIT) and its program and funding partners are providing a Cyber Security Certificate program to benefit 20 disadvantaged adult single mothers, interested in science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) workforce education and employment, and are looking to improve the quality of their lives and the lives of their children.
The Cyber Security Educational Program for Single Mothers overall goal is to support single mothers (in Georgia) living in poverty who are in college and/or working and have a foundational understanding of technology, to work with WIT and their program partners to be educated in Cyber Security and Information Security, one of the fastest growing fields in technology with an astounding workforce gap and shortage of talent amongst men and women.
Objectives
- Identify and describe the fundamental security features in an information system
- Analyze and evaluate the information security needs of an organization
- Apply the principles of information systems security
- Assess the effectiveness of various security systems
- Support the formulation, design and implementation of information security systems
- Evaluate, and analyze security threats and vulnerabilities in an enterprise system
- Recommend and assist in the implementation of cybersecurity solutions
- Maintain and troubleshoot an organizational information security system
- Describe the structure and mechanism of IoT and its impact on the elements of cybersecurity
- Explain the principles of incident response and management
- Prepare to take the CompTIA’s Security+ professional certification.
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be an adult single mother
- Must live in the state of Georgia
- pplicant is required to make a commitment to attend the 12-week course – Fundamentals of Cybersecurity and Information Security Continuing Education Program offered by Emory University (WIT partner)
- Each participant completing the program will be awarded a Fundamentals of Cybersecurity and Information Security Certificate of Completion
- The top 50% of highest scores from those participants that successfully complete this course will receive free job placement services by Cognizant Softvision in an entry level position
- Free childcare provided by Sheltering Arms (near Emory) for no more than 1 child, age range 1-5 if needed for the duration of the course (12 weeks – on Saturdays, time range specified for class participation) (Additional children and other ages will be considered on a case by case basis – mothers will be required to remain onsite for duration of class in a designated workspace, with a monitor, keyboard and mouse)
- WIT will partner with the Atlanta Regional Commission and their partners to provide free transportation to and from class (transportation to and from Sheltering Arms is also included for those needing childcare)
- Each participant will receive a laptop to use for this course. Those participants completing the course will be able to keep the provided laptop for their own personal use
- Lunch Gift Cards to purchase lunch will be provided at no charge for each Saturday through the duration of the program (12 weeks)
- Professional Development coaching will be provided, that will help each participant overcome self-doubt and limiting beliefs, to help them pursue their dreams with complete clarity and bold confidence.Online workshops will be offered free of charge that will help each participant get clear goals and envision themselves with a thriving future. It will also elevate their personal brand by increasing their visibility in the community and help them learn how to build their own vibrant community of support.
- Financial Literacy and Nutritional coaching provided free of charge by Warrick Dunn Charities
- Membership in WIT, and upon completing the course, will receive free admission to WITs monthly Forum events (educational breakfast meetings) for 2 years following completion of the program
- The participant completing the program with the highest score for that program, highest score for the program calendar year and is an ambassador of WIT, helping us get others involved in the program, will be recognized at the WIT Woman of The Year annual event and will also be awarded a monetary donation to celebrate their achievement.
