Deadline: 30-Sep-2025
The Government of the Czech Republic offers scholarships to citizens from developing countries for studies at public higher education institutions, as part of its foreign development cooperation programme jointly implemented by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Focus: Granting scholarships to citizens from developing countries (referred to as “scholarship holders”) for studies at Czech public higher education institutions/universities is an important part of the foreign development cooperation of the Czech Republic and is implemented on the basis of Resolution of the Government of the Czech Republic through a joint programme of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Health.
The scholarship programme supports a range of study opportunities. In the Czech language, it covers Bachelor’s study programmes (three to four years), follow-up Master’s study programmes (two to three years), and a one-year language and preparatory course at the Institute for Language and Preparatory Studies of Charles University. In the English language, it includes selected follow-up Master’s programmes (two years) and selected Doctoral programmes (three to four years). Scholarships for English-medium studies require advanced knowledge of English and passing an online English entrance test.
Applications must be submitted electronically no later than 30 September 2025, with successful applicants beginning their studies in the academic year 2026/2027. Each applicant may register only once and must complete the required general knowledge test, and, for English programmes, the English language test. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews by the Czech Embassy in their country, and the most successful will be asked to provide full documentation by deadlines set by the Embassy. Scholarship decisions are communicated by the end of June 2026.
Scholarships are not transferable between individuals or academic years, and once granted, the choice of university, programme, and language of study cannot be changed. They are open only to foreign nationals from developing countries and exclude citizens of the Czech Republic, the European Union, and foreign nationals with permanent residence in the Czech Republic.
The scholarship amount is currently CZK 16,000 per month for Bachelor’s and follow-up Master’s students, and CZK 17,000 for Doctoral students, covering living costs under the same conditions as for Czech citizens. However, recipients must cover their own travel expenses to and from the Czech Republic. Upon arrival, students should be prepared to cover initial costs from their own funds, estimated at approximately CZK 3,000 to CZK 5,000, for administrative fees, public transport, or other personal needs.
Applicants must meet strict documentation requirements, including legalized and translated education certificates, medical confirmations, declarations accepting programme terms, and commitments to return to their country of origin upon completion of studies. They must also comply with Czech residence and health insurance regulations and are obliged to focus fully on their studies, abide by Czech laws and university regulations, and report any changes affecting their scholarship status.
