Deadline: 30-Sep-2025
The ICGEB is offering Short-term PhD Fellowships through the Arturo Falaschi programme, inviting doctoral researchers to conduct pre-doctoral research in its laboratories located in Trieste, Italy; New Delhi, India; or Cape Town, South Africa.
These fellowships are designed to foster collaborative research and provide access to cutting-edge scientific techniques in the life sciences.
To apply, candidates should first contact an ICGEB Group Leader or Principal Investigator with a motivation letter to secure lab space and to co-develop the research proposal that will anchor the application. A written endorsement from this Group Leader is an essential part of the submission. Only applicants who are nationals of ICGEB Member States are eligible, and candidates are not permitted to carry out the fellowship in their home country unless they are currently working abroad.
Those applying should hold at least an MSc degree and demonstrate proficiency in English; official certification might not be required if they’ve previously studied in English. Although enrollment in a PhD program is not mandatory, preference is given to those already registered for one, underscoring the programme’s focus on supporting active doctoral candidates.
Financial support includes a monthly stipend that varies by location: approximately €1,500 in Trieste, USD 1,020 in New Delhi, and ZAR 15,000 in Cape Town. The fellowship duration spans from one to twelve months, and covers travel to and from the host city, health insurance, and visa or permit costs. Specific arrangements—such as guest house accommodation in New Delhi—are made to support fellows upon arrival. Family members are not eligible for financial support under the scheme.
Only one application per candidate is permitted for each call. Applicants must submit their CV, the written statement from their prospective supervisor, identification documents, and an English proficiency certificate where necessary. Reference letters are also required to support the application process.
This fellowship is more than a funding opportunity—it’s a gateway to international mentorship, advanced training, and impactful collaboration in leading biotechnology and life sciences environments. For aspiring doctoral researchers aiming to elevate their research through global exposure, the Arturo Falaschi Short-term PhD Fellowship is a truly transformative opportunity.
