The Yale University is seeking applications for its “Yale Young African Scholars Program 2019” that is a flagship program of the Yale Africa Initiative and is designed to introduce secondary school students from all African countries to the demanding university and financial aid application processes and requirements, thereby making higher education more accessible to the continent’s most talented young leaders.
YYAS will admit a combined total of 300 students to the Yale Young African Scholars sessions taking place in 2019.
Benefits
To make YYAS accessible to students from all backgrounds, there is no tuition cost to participate in the Program. Room and board will be provided for all students, along with three meals a day
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be at least 14 years old by application deadline (06 February 2019) in order to be considered. Please note that a typical YYAS student is between the ages of 15 and 18.
- Applicants must be able to participate in a rigorous academic curriculum conducted in English.
- Applicants must be a citizen or permanent resident of an African country. YYAS will also accept applications from refugees living in an African country.
- Applicants must currently attend school in an African country.
- If applicant attend school in the Northern Hemisphere, applicant must be graduating secondary school by earliest May/June 2020. If applicants attend school in the Southern Hemisphere, applicant must be graduating secondary school by earliest November/December 2019. Students who will graduate secondary school before August 2019 are NOT eligible to apply.
