Deadline: 30-Sep-2025
The International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) invites emerging postdoctoral researchers from its Member States to apply for the Arturo Falaschi Short-Term Postdoctoral Fellowships, providing a unique avenue for collaborative research in cutting-edge life sciences settings across its laboratories.
These fellowships allow researchers to spend between one and six months at one of ICGEB’s component laboratories—situated in Trieste (Italy), New Delhi (India), or Cape Town (South Africa)—and are designed to foster international cooperation and capacity building by offering hands-on access to advanced research techniques.
To apply, aspiring fellows must reach out to an ICGEB Group Leader or Principal Investigator at their chosen location, submitting a motivation letter to explore available lab space and co-develop a research proposal. A written statement from that Group Leader is mandatory and forms an essential part of the application process.
Eligibility is limited to nationals of ICGEB Member States—who cannot conduct the fellowship in their own country unless they’ve been working abroad for at least three years—and candidates should hold a recent PhD in Life Sciences or have at least three years of research experience. Preference is given to candidates under the age of 35.
The fellowship comes with a competitive monthly stipend—approximately €2,300 in Trieste, USD 1,749 in New Delhi, or ZAR 25,000 in Cape Town—along with coverage for round-trip travel, medical insurance, and visa or permit expenses. However, support for accompanying family members is not provided.
Only one application per individual is allowed, and applicants are requested to upload documents such as their CV, the written statement from the Group Leader, a valid ID, and proof of English proficiency if needed.
Selection is based on the scientific merit of the proposed project, the quality of the candidate’s experience, and the potential impact on their home country. Outcomes are communicated via email in due course.
