The Yiaga Africa, with support from the Open Society Foundations (OSF) has announced the call for applications for the Civic and Political Organising Lab for young creatives.
The lab sessions aim to inspire and mobilise creatives to promote civic engagement by producing content that promotes political education, civic activism, good governance, and social cohesion amongst Nigerians.
The program is seeking to mobilise 50 creative actors drawn from the creative industry for arts-based civic engagement. Applicants should have project initiatives that promote civic engagement through the use of art.
The Civic and Political Organising Lab will feature lab sessions facilitated by experienced artists, art educationists, civic art activists, and public officials. At the end of the lab session, participating artists will be tasked to produce civic-oriented arts in their respective groups that promote political education, democratic accountability, and/or social cohesion. Yiaga Africa will award small grants to groups to produce artworks.
Yiaga Africa will cover certain participation costs including transportation to the location of the Civic and Political Organising Lab, accommodation during the event, meals, and training materials.
To be eligible, applicants must be passionate about meaningful citizens’ participation in governance, be a creative artist such as a visual artist, musician, dancer, monologue artist, spoken word artist, or poet, and be between 18 and 30 years old. They must also be interested in leveraging the arts to promote civic consciousness. Priority will be given to those already working on or leading an arts-based initiative for civic engagement.
Selection will be based on the strength of each application, and both individuals and groups engaging in art-based initiatives are encouraged to apply. Special consideration will be given to young women and young persons with disabilities who are in the creative industry.
The deadline for applications is Wednesday, 8th October 2025.
