Deadline: 31-Oct-2025
Are you a researcher based in Ghana, Kenya, Senegal, or Zambia? Applications are now open for grants of up to $15,000 to support research that strengthens Foundational Learning (FL) and helps shape education policy and practice.
These grants aim to bolster research that enhances early literacy and numeracy, thereby informing education policy and practice across the region.
The grants are part of ESSA’s collaboration with the Research for Equitable Access and Learning (REAL) Centre at the University of Cambridge. This partnership seeks to strengthen the capacity of local researchers to generate actionable insights that can influence educational outcomes. The funding is intended to cover direct research expenses, including researcher time, materials, data collection, and dissemination efforts.
Eligible applicants must be citizens of Ghana, Kenya, Senegal, or Zambia, currently based in their respective countries. The lead applicant should hold a PhD and be affiliated with a university, research institution, or government department in the country of application. Proposed research must focus on areas identified in the individual country calls, and applications should be submitted in English or French, depending on the country.
This initiative underscores ESSA’s commitment to improving education in sub-Saharan Africa by leveraging local expertise to address foundational learning challenges. By empowering researchers in these countries, ESSA aims to foster a more robust and contextually relevant educational research landscape.
