Deadline: 17-Sep-2025
Applications are now open for the New Horizons for Seniors Program, which aims to strengthen the social inclusion of seniors so they can both benefit from and contribute to the quality of life in their communities.
The program promotes volunteerism among seniors and across generations, engages seniors in the community through mentoring, expands awareness of elder abuse, supports social participation and inclusion, and provides capital assistance for new and existing community projects for seniors.
This cycle focuses on four national priorities. The first is supporting healthy aging by addressing social isolation, promoting digital literacy for seniors, tackling ageism, and supporting mental health, including for those living with dementia. The second is preventing senior abuse by reducing crimes and harm against seniors, raising awareness about elder abuse, and providing educational materials to prevent fraud and scams.
The third priority celebrates diversity and promotes inclusion through intergenerational engagement, advancing reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples, and working with diverse and vulnerable communities such as low-income seniors, 2SLGBTQI+ members, official language minority communities, racialized and newcomer groups, persons with disabilities, veterans, and seniors in rural or remote areas. The fourth priority supports financial security by helping seniors access government services and benefits, file taxes, and build financial empowerment.
Eligible organizations can receive up to $25,000 for projects lasting up to 52 weeks. Applicants may include not-for-profit organizations, coalitions, municipal governments, research and educational institutions, public health and social services institutions, Indigenous organizations, and organizations representing 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals. Provincially or territorially funded institutions may apply with government agreement.
