UNICEF has launched the implementation phase of the Positive Transition Program from school to work under the 1 Million Opportunities (1MiO) initiative. This program is designed to help young people transition successfully into the workforce by offering professional training through a diverse ecosystem of free courses. These are delivered in online, hybrid, and offline formats and include life project-focused materials for educators.
The call invites a qualified partner organization to support technical assistance efforts for school secretariats and managers. This includes developing implementation strategies, creating methodologies, conducting curricular diagnoses, and designing training and mobilization approaches. The focus is on public education networks in the states of Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais.
Key responsibilities involve systematizing the 1MiO methodology and producing an online course for education managers, analyzing curriculum gaps, supporting mobilization efforts to engage adolescents, and encouraging the use of 1MiO content in classrooms. Recognition of innovative practices will be promoted by collecting and publishing teaching materials and success stories.
The initiative is structured around four pillars: quality education, digital inclusion, professional training, and access to work through employment and entrepreneurship. Its broader aim is to transition Brazilian youth from social exclusion to full citizenship, respecting the country’s cultural diversity.
Expected results include co-creating the transition methodology with stakeholders, conducting curriculum assessments, and enabling 200,000 young people to complete at least five hours of training. The program targets both educators and youth aged 14 to 24.
Eligible civil society organizations must be registered in their country of origin, not appear on UN sanctions lists, align with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and Brazil’s Statute of Children and Adolescents, and have a proven track record in educational inclusion.
