The Japanese Teaching Material Purchase Grant Program supports educational institutions in the U.S. by providing financial assistance to purchase teaching materials for Japanese-language courses. This includes textbooks, audio-visual materials, cultural decor, dictionaries, digital learning software, and reference books for teachers.
The maximum amount of financial support available through this grant is $1,000. Only non-profit institutions and organizations involved in Japanese-language education in the U.S. are eligible to apply. Individuals cannot apply for this grant.
Certain institutions are ineligible, such as U.S. government bodies, organizations already funded by the Japanese government, institutions restricted by law from receiving aid from foreign government-affiliated organizations, and those serving commercial, political, or religious purposes. Applicants must have a bank account in the institution’s name that can accept Japan Foundation funds, and receipt of the grant must comply with all relevant laws.
If selected, grantees must submit a signed Acceptance of Grant & Request for Payment form within two months of being notified, or the grant may be rescinded. Grant payments are made by check.
Applicants must inform the Japan Foundation Los Angeles (JFLA) of their intent to apply before submitting an application. The application must include a detailed wish list showing item titles, prices, quantities, and the total estimated cost, including tax and shipping.
If awarded, only the listed items may be purchased. Any changes must be approved by JFLA before buying. Grantees must keep all receipts and invoices as proof of payment. Only items with proper documentation will be reimbursed.
