The Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) is now accepting applications to its Advanced Degrees for Accelerating Strategic Space R&D and Applications (AD ASTRA) Scholarships Program.
The scholarships will fund studies in disciplines related to space science and technology applications such as, but not limited to: Space data applications – remote sensing and spatial analysis, geospatial technologies with focus on Earth observation, photogrammetry, environmental monitoring, climate studies, geophysics, geomatics, geoinformation science, satellite meteorology, astrostatistics, and atmospheric science; Spacecraft systems development, engineering, and robotics – satellite development and operation, space systems, spacecraft design and analysis, payload system development, rocketry, instrumentation and signal processing, aeronautics, astronautics, internet of robotic things (IoRT), space cybersecurity, intelligent systems, and space debris mitigation and removal; Space law, policy, and entrepreneurship – space, cyber and telecommunications law, international relations, diplomacy, space business/economics, and space tourism; Multidisciplinary studies – materials science and engineering particularly materials in the space environment, materials for the space environment, and space experimental hardware for materials investigation; other multidisciplinary fields such as astronomy, astrobiology, space biology, space biotechnology, space medicine, astrophysics, space physics, astrogeology, archeoastronomy, space archeology, forensic astronomy, space chemistry, planetary science, space exploration, cosmology, earth and space sciences, STEM education with focus on astronomy and space science.
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be a Filipino citizen and not more than 45 years old for Master’s and Doctorate Scholarships, or 50 years old for stand-alone sandwich programs. They must be in good health, have good moral character attested by two character references, and possess a relevant Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree. Applicants must have no pending administrative or criminal cases and no pending service obligation from any previous scholarship programs unless they have a clearance from the previous institution.
Applicants must have a research, thesis, or dissertation plan that aligns with the Key Development Areas of PhilSA and have passed the admission requirements of a CHED-recognized Higher Educational Institution for local applicants. Government employees must have passed their internal scholarship process. All applicants must have been accepted to their host institution.
The benefits of the scholarship include tuition and other school fees, a book allowance, technological support, a round-trip transportation allowance, a pre-departure allowance, a relocation allowance, and disability support. Other benefits include an allowance for extra academic activities, a thesis, dissertation, or internship allowance if applicable, a research grant if applicable, a research dissemination grant if applicable, and a mentor’s fee if applicable. A mentoring and support program and membership in the PhilSA Scholars Group are also provided. The stipend for living expenses, including meals and accommodation, is Php 27,500 monthly for local studies and Php 36,000 monthly for local studies, with the foreign stipend based on the actual cost of living, including health insurance.
