Deadline: 19-Nov-2025
The National Geographic Society has announced Grant Program for innovative education projects and research initiatives that foster curiosity and empower learners of all ages to protect and care for the planet.
This call is designed to support projects that bring the future into the present by equipping learners with the knowledge, attitudes, and skills to take action that benefits both people and nature. Applicants may propose projects that either pilot new learning solutions or expand proven educational approaches to new populations and geographies. Research initiatives that measure the effectiveness of educational innovations are also welcomed, with a strong focus on cultivating the abilities necessary to design a sustainable and thriving future for the planet.
Competitive proposals will clearly describe the future being envisioned, the community of learners targeted, and the specific learning solutions to be implemented. Applicants are encouraged to present novel, interdisciplinary approaches that hold potential for significant scale and impact, while also highlighting how these projects can bridge political, cultural, and geographic boundaries. The proposals should also detail the skills, attitudes, and knowledge intended to be cultivated, along with anticipated outcomes for both learners and the wider environment.
The grants are open to applicants worldwide, provided they are over the age of 18 and not currently employed by the National Geographic Society. Applicants must demonstrate prior experience in using education strategically to achieve goals, though formal degrees or credentials are not a requirement. Two levels of funding are available, with National Geographic Explorers eligible only for Level II funding.
To support interested applicants, the Society will host informational webinars on Thursday, October 9 at 12:00 UTC/8:00 AM EDT and Friday, October 10 at 19:00 UTC/3:00 PM EDT. Application closes on 19 November 2025.
