The Administration for Children and Families is seeking proposals for its Title V Competitive Sexual Risk Avoidance Education Program. This initiative supports projects that teach youth to voluntarily avoid non-marital sexual activity through sexual risk avoidance education. The program emphasizes implementing curricula that clearly promote avoiding non-marital sex as the optimal health behavior.
Funding for the program totals approximately $3.68 million, with individual awards ranging from $13,501 to $450,000 for the first budget period. Projects will be funded for two years, split into two one-year budget periods. Eligible projects must use medically accurate information based on peer-reviewed sources and deliver content appropriate to the age and developmental level of the targeted youth.
Programs should employ evidence-based strategies that combine research findings with practical approaches tailored to the needs and goals of their audience. They are expected to highlight the benefits of personal responsibility, self-regulation, goal setting, healthy decision-making, and focusing on the future. Additionally, the curricula must address risks like sexual coercion, dating violence, underage drinking, and illegal drug use.
Eligible applicants include county, city, and special district governments, independent school districts, public and state-controlled institutions of higher education, federally recognized Native American tribal governments, Indian housing authorities, other Native American tribal organizations, and nonprofits both with and without 501(c)(3) status, excluding higher education institutions.
