The New Africa Fund has announced an exciting opportunity for grassroots organizations with the launch of its Africa Impact Fundraising Grant Program. This initiative is tailored specifically to help NGOs, community-based organizations (CBOs), and social enterprises across the African continent build their fundraising capacity and access essential resources needed to amplify their impact.
Many promising initiatives in Africa face a common barrier—limited access to funding and the skills needed to raise those funds. Recognizing this critical gap, the New Africa Fund has created a multi-stage support model that not only offers financial grants but also provides the training and tools needed to successfully sustain local fundraising efforts over the long term.
The program begins with a foundational online training series, equipping participants with skills in small donor campaigns, storytelling, digital outreach, and practical fundraising techniques. These online modules will help organizations understand how to create compelling appeals, engage local and international donors, and manage successful campaign strategies, even with limited resources.
Following the online training, selected organizations will participate in a 30-day fundraising challenge. This challenge is a chance to put their learning into action and raise funds for their causes. Importantly, organizations that meet key performance benchmarks during this phase will be eligible to receive matching funds, doubling the impact of what they raise.
Up to 70 organizations will receive access to this foundational level of training. However, the most successful organizations—based on creativity, engagement, donor response, and fundraising results—will move on to the program’s next phase: a fully funded, week-long intensive training in Kigali, Rwanda.
This Kigali-based workshop will provide deep, hands-on exposure to the core areas of modern fundraising. Topics will include financial management for nonprofits, effective marketing and branding, communication strategies, donor research, proposal writing, stewardship and retention of supporters, and practical local fundraising approaches suited to the African context. The workshop also fosters peer learning, cross-country collaboration, and long-term partnerships among attending organizations.
All participating groups, regardless of whether they attend the Kigali workshop, will benefit from 12 months of free fiscal sponsorship through the New Africa Fund. This sponsorship will help organizations receive international donations, manage funds professionally, and demonstrate financial accountability—an essential component of gaining donor trust. Organizations that show strong performance may be considered for extended sponsorship and additional capacity-building opportunities.
Furthermore, the program is not just about a one-time grant—it is a stepping stone into a broader network of fundraising support. Top-performing organizations may be invited to participate in future projects, pilot partnerships, and receive continued mentoring from fundraising experts. This makes the program particularly valuable for organizations that are ready to scale and take on new challenges.
Eligible applicants must be legally registered in one of the 55 African Union member states. To apply, organizations must submit a registration document, an organizational chart, and financial documentation. If an external audit is not available, at least five months of financial statements must be provided for all active accounts. This ensures that participating organizations have basic financial systems in place to support responsible grant management.
By focusing on training, practice, mentorship, and funding, the Africa Impact Fundraising Grant Program presents a well-rounded, impactful opportunity for African organizations looking to strengthen their fundraising strategies, reach new donors, and create lasting change in their communities. It empowers leaders at the grassroots level to move from dependency to sustainability—equipping them with the confidence and competence to raise their own funds, tell their stories, and lead boldly into the future.
Whether your organization works in education, healthcare, gender equality, youth development, environment, or community empowerment, this program is designed to help you unlock your full fundraising potential. For African NGOs seeking more than just short-term funding—seeking the skills, tools, and relationships that drive long-term success—this could be the game-changer.
