Deadline: 30-Sep-2025
Applications are now open for the Higher Education Scholarship, designed to support lower-income students in covering the costs of higher education. Scholarships are granted for the full academic year and typically disbursed in 10 monthly installments.
For working students or those who earn occasional income during holiday periods, the total annual income limit is €12,569.89. However, special provisions apply for students in humanitarian emergency situations. Students from Syria, Afghan refugees, and those under temporary protection from Ukraine are not subject to minimum income requirements and may be eligible for the maximum grant amount of €5,981.73.
Eligible applicants must be enrolled in public or private higher education institutions in Portugal. They must be pursuing a Higher Professional Technical Course (CTESP), a bachelor’s, integrated master’s, or master’s degree program, with a minimum enrollment of 30 ECTS credits. Applicants must not already hold a diploma or degree at the same or higher level as the one for which the scholarship is being sought.
Continuing students must meet academic progression requirements and enrollment limits. The total annual household income must be less than €11,049.89, and the value of movable assets must be below €115,303.20. Applicants must also have their tax and social security contributions in order.
To apply, students will need information for all household members, including their Taxpayer ID (NIF), Social Security Number (NISS), and the balance of all current and term bank accounts as of December 31 of the year before the academic year. They must also report other movable assets, such as savings certificates, shares, bonds, and retirement savings.
If the household owns their primary residence, a Municipal Property Tax (IMI) declaration or a property registry document is required. For those living in rented housing or social housing, a lease agreement and, if applicable, proof of rent support or social housing status must be provided.
