The First Peoples’ Cultural Council is accepting applications for its Reclaiming My Language (RML) Program, a course for Silent Speakers is an Indigenous-developed program to support Silent Speakers to reclaim their language and begin speaking again.
Structures

The Reclaiming My Language (RML) Program has 3 components:
- Class Time: Participants attend 10, 2-3 hour, in-person, class sessions over the course of 10 weeks. The class sessions are facilitated by a Community Co-Instructor and a Mental Health Co-Instructor, FPCC also provides supplemental course videos.
- Homework: Participants spend at least 1 hour a week, outside of class time, with a fluent language mentor. They will have a language topic to practice each week and a hands-on workbook to explore different activities.
- Internship: Participants can choose to take part in an optional internship from week 5-10. The purpose of the internship is to support participants in growing their language and to explore different types of language work in the community.
Funding Information
- Funding of up to $35,000 per year is available to support the Reclaiming My Language Program.
Eligibility Criteria
- First Nations Communities/Governments/Bands/TribalCouncils located in B.C.
- Indigenous Cultural, Language and Education centres in B.C., including Indigenous academic institutions
- Indigenous organizations in B.C. (incorporated and unincorporated not-for-profit organizations)
- Indigenous community groups that include ad-hoc committees defined as a temporary committee set up to do a specific task and are not a permanent standing committee
- Previous applicants may apply if all reporting on previous funding from FPHLCC/FPCC (all programs) or the First Peoples' Cultural Foundation (FPCF) have been complete
Ineligibility Criteria
- Individual applicants
- Public institutions (e.g., schools, universities)
- Non-Indigenous organizations
- For-profit organizations
- Committees, groups, task forces without an established governing body
- Provincial/territorial and municipal governments and their agencies
- Federal departments and agencies
- Organizations with incomplete or outstanding reporting with FPHLCC/FPCF who have incomplete or outstanding reporting
