Deadline: 01-Sep-2025
The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund is launching an initiative in India with a strong focus on strengthening youth leadership and participation through education and innovation.
The program, set to be implemented across the country with special emphasis on Telangana, aims to empower both teachers and students to embrace creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving as part of their everyday learning experience.
One of the key goals of the program is to train over 5,000 teachers nationwide through high-quality, modular training sessions. These sessions will provide educators with facilitation tools, lesson plans, and assessment strategies designed around the SIM innovation cycle, ensuring teachers are well-prepared to guide students in innovation-driven learning environments.
Students will also benefit directly through offline innovation bootcamps to be held across at least 20 states. These camps will support selected student teams in refining their ideas, validating them with stakeholders, and improving prototype quality, with the target of achieving at least a 40% improvement in feasibility and execution.
At the curriculum level, the project will refine and expand the UPSHIFT-based SIM curriculum for national deployment. The curriculum will include structured assessment frameworks, activity-based modules, and localized adaptations to ensure it resonates with the diverse school systems across India. This approach will help embed innovation as an integral part of the education system.
To support sustainability and knowledge sharing, the initiative will also produce toolkits, case studies, and best practices in multiple Indian languages. These resources will ensure wider access, improve completion rates for student-led innovation projects, and strengthen collaboration with state governments and education departments. By combining training, curriculum development, and practical application, this program sets the stage for fostering a new generation of innovative thinkers and leaders across India.
