The Short Line Safety Institute Program is funded through a Congressional appropriation to support the Short Line Safety Institute, a 501(c)(3) organization. The Institute’s mission is to provide leadership that enhances the safety culture and performance of short line and regional railroads through voluntary, non-punitive partnerships.
The Institute focuses on improving safety practices and fostering a strong safety culture across the industry. It works toward these goals through four main areas: conducting safety culture assessments, providing education and training, supporting research, and managing communications.
The total funding available for this program is $2,500,000, and the maximum award amount is also $2,500,000. The only entity eligible to apply for this funding is the Short Line Safety Institute.
