Deadline: 30-Sep-2025
The Japan World Exposition 1970 Commemorative Fund Grant Program was created to carry forward the legacy of Expo ’70 by fostering projects that encourage international understanding and goodwill.
Since 1971, the program has supported thousands of initiatives across the globe, investing more than 19 billion yen in projects that reflect the vision of the exposition.
For fiscal year 2026, the program is inviting applications for new projects with a total grant budget of about 135 million yen. Each project can receive up to 5 million yen, with funding provided in Japanese yen. The grant period will run from April 1, 2026, to March 31, 2027, giving organizations a full year to implement their initiatives.
Eligible projects must uphold the spirit of Expo ’70 and contribute to the broader public interest. Priority is given to initiatives that advance cultural exchange, strengthen international cooperation, or promote education and academic collaboration. Projects are expected to be well-planned, impactful, and inclusive, ensuring benefits extend beyond a limited group of individuals.
The opportunity is open to foreign national governments, local governments, and organizations working in the public interest. Both incorporated and unincorporated organizations may apply, as long as they are capable of completing the project and managing its outcomes responsibly. However, individuals and profit-making corporations are not eligible to apply.
This grant program offers a valuable chance for organizations to secure funding for projects that create meaningful connections across cultures and contribute to lasting international goodwill. By supporting efforts in education, cultural exchange, and cooperation, the program continues to uphold the vision of Expo ’70 while addressing today’s global challenges.
