African Centre for Media Excellence (ACME) is pleased to announce that the Uganda National Journalism Awards 2022 are open for entries.
The Uganda National Journalism Awards honor high quality, effective and engaging media coverage of public affairs issues across the country.

- Agriculture reporting
- Arts reporting
- Business, economy, and finance
- Education reporting
- Energy and extractive industries
- Environment reporting
- Features
- Health reporting
- Investigative reporting
- Justice, law and order reporting
- Land and property rights reporting
- Local reporting
- National News (broadcast)
- National News (print)
- News illustration
- Photo and video journalism
- Political reporting
- Public accountability reporting
- Public works and infrastructure
- Sports reporting
- Both the winner and first runner-up in each category will receive a cash prize.
- Plaques and certificates will also be given to the top three winners.
- Winners will be celebrated at a grand gala to be held in Kampala in August 2022. Additionally, winning entries will be published online and in a booklet to be distributed by ACME.
Eligibility Criteria
- There is no entry fee.
- The competition is open to all journalists, freelance or full-time, and independent content producers working in Uganda.
- Work submitted must be published or broadcast in a Ugandan media outlet or a regional news outlet with wide distribution in Uganda.
- All work submitted must have been broadcast or published between 1 January and 31 December 2021.
How to participate
- All entries must have been published or broadcast in a Ugandan media outlet or a regional outlet with a substantial Ugandan audience during the 2021 calendar year.
- Web-based news organizations that follow a strict code of journalistic ethics and publish original reporting regularly may also submit entries.
