The UN Women WeSTEM 2.0 project builds on the success of its predecessor to bridge gender gaps in STEM fields.
Initiated in Madhya Pradesh and expanding to Gujarat, the project aims to empower 2,500 young women, particularly from marginalized backgrounds, by providing training in 21st-century digital and employability skills. Through partnerships with vocational and technical institutes, WeSTEM 2.0 promotes gender sensitization, internships, industry exposure, and job placements, fostering sustainable economic participation.
The program will work with young women from science backgrounds, enrolled in distance learning, to enable them to envision a career path and upskill themselves. The project will also offer pathways and support to access internships, apprenticeships and employment opportunities to the women.
Funding Information
- The budget range for this proposal should be INR 30,00,000/- to INR 35,00,000/
Timeframe
- All work must be completed between 1 January to 31 March 2025.
Target Group
- Marginalise young women enrolled in STEM courses in ITI and Polytechnics
Expected Results
- Enable 2,500 young women to enhance capacity and gain digital and employable skills, over a period of one year.
- Outcome: 2500 women skilled in 21st century employability skills in STEM and find decent jobs to participate gainfully in the formal economy.
- Output 1: Young women knowledge enhanced in STEM and STEM employment pathways.
- Output 2: 2500 number of young women enrolled in STEM courses with improved 21st century employability skills.
- Output 3: Industry exposure and internships/jobs in STEM provided to 750 number of young women.
- Output 4: Young women, community, and Industry partners have improved gender sensitization on benefits of STEM
- Outcome: 2500 women skilled in 21st century employability skills in STEM and find decent jobs to participate gainfully in the formal economy.
Competencies
- Technical/functional competencies required
- The organization must have a minimum 7 years of experience in facilitating and managing large scale skills development and placement projects.
- Five years of work experience on the issue of Gender equality, women’s empowerment, Livelihood, and related legislations.
- Demonstrable experience of designing, conducting, and monitoring of trainings/ capacity building workshops on skill/vocational training and placement initiatives.
- Demonstrable experience of developing skill training modules.
- Demonstrable experience of working with private sector companies for employment of women.
- Understanding of the local context and functional competency in the local languages in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat knowledge on the structure and functioning of vocational training system (it is) is desirable.
- Other competencies, which while not required, can be an asset for the performance of services
- Substantial experience of working with Central Ministries, State Department and Corporate/Foundation for implementing large scale skill development and placement programs across the country.
- Experience of working with Government Educational Institutions.
- Qualifications of Key Personnel:
- Team Leaders
- The team lead should have minimum 8 years of experience in skill development and placement projects, across multi sectors.
- An advanced university degree in a relevant field
- Specialization in gender, Women’s economic empowerment, social development, and women’s rights.
- Significant knowledge and experience of approaches on vocational education, gender and skill training and placements.
- Team members
- Team members must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in implementing skill development and placement projects.
- Experience in gender, Women’s economic empowerment, social development, and women’s rights.
- Experience in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.
- Facilitation skills, particularly designing and developing skill training modules and delivering the same.
