WERA (World Education Research Association), IEA (International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement), and the Research Center “LiDS” (Literacy in Diversity Settings) at the University of Hamburg are pleased to announce a call for the 2023 WERA Visiting Research Award.
This award enables visiting researchers to develop their own research projects while benefiting from the individual support of experts from the partner institutes working in different fields related to international large-scale assessments, especially with a focus on diversity in education.
The research visitor will be co-hosted by IEA Hamburg and the University of Hamburg, both located in Hamburg, Germany. Both institutes cooperate in different research projects. The researcher will get an opportunity to spend time at both institutes during their six weeks visit period.
Aims
- Contribute to enhancing the research projects/interests of the academic visitors by providing support from partner institutes;
- Provide visiting researchers with direct access to data and resources of the host institutes to help them carry out their research projects;
- Provide the opportunity to collaborate with research staff and doctoral-level staff from partner institutes and promote networking within a worldwide research community.
Funding Information
Awardees will receive a grant of € 3,500 to cover their travel, stay, and other subsistence costs during the visit. The host institutes will assist with locating affordable housing.
Expectations from the visiting researcher
- Visiting academic researchers are expected to work on their research project;
- Visiting academic researchers are encouraged to initiate a collaboration with its experts on a specific research project or research policy, ideally aiming for a joint publication;
- Visiting academic researchers are expected to present their work within a research colloquium organized by the host institutes;
- Visiting academic researchers are expected to report on their visit and its results to the host institute. The reports will be published on the websites of all partner institutes.
Eligibility Criteria
- To qualify for the visiting researcher award, the applicant will need to:
- Conduct a research project corresponding to the research activities and study data of host organizations;
- Obtain the necessary visa and arrange your own travel to the host country;
- Present proof of valid medical insurance coverage for the stay in the host country;
- Working level in written and spoken English.
- To be eligible, applicants must meet all four conditions. If applicants cannot meet one or more of these conditions, please consider postponing the application until all conditions can be met. Note that applicants from Global South countries are explicitly encouraged to apply.
