Applications are open for WiSci Girls STEAM Camp 2018. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Design, and Mathematics. The camp will include a STEAM curriculum led by experts in their fields, as well as leadership development activities and learning excursions within Namibia.
United Nations Foundation’s adolescent girl campaign, Girl Up engages girls to take action. Led by a community of nearly half a million passionate advocates raising awareness and funds, the efforts help the hardest to reach girls living in places where it is hardest to be a girl.
Eligibility Criteria
In order to apply for this opportunity to attend the 2018 WiSci camp, applicants must be:
- A self-identified girl between the ages of 15 to 18 during the time of camp.
- A citizen or resident of Ethiopia, Kenya, Namibia, Swaziland, or the United States of America.
- Have written permission from a parent or guardian.
- Have written permission from your school.
- Obtain regular access (at least once per week) to the internet.
- Able to attend the full duration of camp and have permission from your school if the dates conflict with classes.
- Have at least one year of secondary school classes still left to complete.
- Have never participated in the WiSci Girls STEAM Camp before and have not had a sibling participant or counselor in the WiSci Girls STEAM Camp before.
- Have an interest in the STEAM fields and demonstrated leadership potential.
- Able to obtain a passport by May to travel to Namibia, or have a passport that is valid for at least six months beyond June 2018.
