Deadline: 15-Oct-2025
The Donors’ Initiative for Mediterranean Freshwater Ecosystems (DIMFE) funds projects that take a holistic approach to freshwater conservation. Projects must consider not only ecological goals but also community and cultural aspects, such as socio-economic benefits for local populations, the promotion of environmentally sustainable cultural practices, and respect for ethnicity and gender.
The initiative supports projects focused on conserving and restoring freshwater ecosystems and biodiversity, promoting the sustainable use and management of water resources, and developing sustainable financing mechanisms for freshwater conservation. Projects should lead to concrete results and have a direct impact on the ground.
Financial support ranges from €100,000 to €500,000. DIMFE typically contributes up to 75% of the total project budget. For funding requests exceeding €300,000, a minimum of 25% co-financing in cash (not in-kind) is required. Projects must begin between March and June 2026 and can run for a maximum of three years.
Projects must be located in the Mediterranean basin and align with DIMFE’s themes and budget criteria. However, there is no specific geographic preference within the region. Proposals must demonstrate field-based implementation and tangible outcomes.
Ineligible projects include those focused solely on WASH (water, sanitation, hygiene), projects limited to research or studies, those focused only on awareness or communication without field action, and projects led by a single individual.
Eligible applicants include NGOs, local authorities, municipalities, scientific institutions, and small private companies (with fewer than 20 employees) that are engaged in ecological transition.
Applications must include key documents such as a publication in the Official Gazette or KBIS extract, articles of association, a list of board members, the most recent activity report, financial statements, the organization’s current budget, bank details, and any additional documents that can support the proposal.
