The European Commission has launched a cross-border call for proposals to boost good neighbourly relations between Montenegro and Albania while driving sustainable development in the region.
This programme aims to improve the quality of life for communities in the cross-border area by promoting tourism rooted in cultural and natural heritage, as well as by protecting the environment through targeted actions.
The programme focuses on two thematic priorities. The first is protecting the environment and promoting climate change adaptation and mitigation, alongside risk prevention and management. The second is fostering tourism development and preserving cultural and natural heritage to enhance local economies. By addressing these interconnected priorities, the programme seeks to create lasting social, economic, and territorial benefits for the participating regions.
A total of EUR 7.48 million has been earmarked for this call, with EUR 3.74 million allocated to each thematic priority. Projects under the environmental protection priority can request grants ranging from EUR 350,000 to EUR 600,000, while those under the tourism and heritage priority can apply for amounts between EUR 350,000 and EUR 750,000.
Eligible lead applicants must be non-profit legal entities established in either Montenegro or Albania. Depending on the chosen thematic priority, eligible organizations include local and national authorities, development agencies, civil society organizations, environmental and cultural heritage institutions, educational institutions, chambers of commerce, business associations, cooperatives, and youth organizations. Projects are expected to be jointly prepared and managed by lead applicants and their co-applicants or affiliated entities, ensuring collaborative cross-border implementation.
Through this call, the programme aims to strengthen cooperation, foster sustainable development, and enhance community resilience by addressing pressing environmental challenges and unlocking the tourism potential of the shared cultural and natural heritage between the two countries.
