Deadline: 2-Oct-22
As part of the Safir project, co-financed by the European Union, the Institut français launches a call for applications to select and financially support (up to a maximum of 80,000 euros) one organization in the design, definition, planning and organization of an event around social entrepreneurship, based in one of the 7 countries of implementation of the Safir project: Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon.
The event is primarily aimed at social entrepreneurs and members of the entrepreneurial ecosystem in North Africa and the Middle East.
Objectives
- Networking the social entrepreneurship actors of the Safir project
- The event removes obstacles to the mobility of social entrepreneurship actors in the North Africa and Middle East region. Thus, young project leaders, incubators and universities that support them participate in a landmark event on social entrepreneurship in one of the countries of intervention of the Safir project (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon).
- Integrate these actors in the entrepreneurial ecosystem at the national and regional levels
- The event allows to network the beneficiaries among themselves but also to integrate them into the entrepreneurial ecosystem of the North Africa and Middle East region. The applicant organization proposes an event with quality participants from the entrepreneurial world active at the national level – in the country where the event is organized – but also in the whole North Africa and Middle East region. Participants exchange with their peers (other entrepreneurs, mentors, experts, etc.) and share concrete and innovative solutions in favor of the Sustainable Development Goals.
- Promoting the projects of Safir’s social entrepreneurs
- The event highlights the young entrepreneurs of the Safir project, by capitalizing on their projects, their products, their fields of expertise and their personalities. Applicant organizations develop an original and attractive program, scenography and activities, with a view to bring visibility to these young entrepreneurs and their remarkable initiatives in many fields: ecology, education, dance, music, visual and digital arts, crafts, media…
Funding Information
- Up to a maximum of 80,000 euros.
Types of Activities
- Applicants must propose a complete and detailed event plan. As an example, the activities can take the following forms
- Round tables
- Pitch of the project leaders
- Debates
- Demonstrations/performances by young entrepreneurs: dance, music, videos, exhibition of artisanal products
- Initiation activities
- Communication sequence (press conference, interview)
Eligibility Criteria
- The event will bring together in priority:
- Entrepreneurs with social, cultural and environmental impact, including those who have benefited from the Safir project (91 projects benefited from an incubation program and, among them, 42 have been selected to take part to an acceleration program and to receive a grant up to 25 000 euros)
- Representatives of incubators from North Africa and the Middle East, including the 7 incubators which are partners of the Safir project
- Experts and academics specialized in social entrepreneurship and/or the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), notably from the 18 universities that are members of the Safir network
- Actors involved in projects similar to the Safir project
- International donors (UN, European Union, African Union…)
- Public decision makers
- Journalists and influencers
- The applicant organization must respect all the prerequisites set by the Safir project:
- Legal existence (at least one year of legal existence at the date of the application)
- The organization must be established in one of the 7 countries of implementation of the Safir project.
- Economic model: the structure’s financial plan shows sufficient sources of funding – in addition to the Safir grant – to devote itself to the activities to be implemented within the framework of the Safir project
- Experience in the field of this call
- Languages: mastery of the languages of the Safir project: Arabic, English and French (applications must be submitted in French or English)
- Applicants must not be registered on the European Union’s restrictive measures lists
- The grant awarded under this call will be implemented over the period from November 1st 2022 to November 30, 2023 at the latest. The project supported by Safir must last a minimum of 12 months.
- Applicant organizations must provide co-financing representing at least 10% of the total project budget (the grant awarded may cover up to 90% of the total project budget).
- The structure will have to hire an external auditor for the verification of the expenses (with a final audit whose cost must be integrated into the provisional budget of the project).
- The applicant organization may be for-profit but must not generate profits from the project funded by Safir. Profits generated by the organization from the project must be reinvested in it. This rule will apply for the duration of the Safir funding, which will be contractually defined by the grant agreement.
Note: That the applicant structure may propose a new event, dedicated to this call for applications, or propose to merge this activity with an existing event. In the latter case, it must ensure that it has a program dedicated to the project presented in the framework of this call for applications and that it is identifiable, allowing the Safir project, co-financed by the European Union, to be promoted.
