The Nature of Us supports collaboration and interdisciplinary dialogue between the performing arts and the natural sciences in addressing climate change and environmental conservation.
It responds to the performing arts’ needs to gain a solid understanding of the environmental issues and create works that meaningfully address their audiences’ concerns. As a result, enhanced effectiveness of artistic creations and products can be reached in raising awareness of climate change and encouraging taking action.
The Nature of Us is a collaborative initiative run by Workshop Foundation (HU), Live Performance Bazaar (CZ), PlaST (SK) and polkaDOT (PL), co-funded by the European Union’s Creative Europe Program and the Trust for Mutual Understanding (US).
After the series of Art-Sci residencies and a Symposium Contaminations (12-14 June 2025 in Bratislava), now the project calls artists/artistic groups, collaborating with scientists, to submit co-production proposals.
Benefits
- Nature of US will provide co-production support for the creation of a cross-sectoral performance, developed in international or local collaboration between environmental experts and artists.
Funding Information
- Conditions:
- For 1 chosen project a total project contribution of 15000 Euro is available, this contribution must cover travel, accommodation costs and fees related to the presentation at the Bazaar Festival 2026 in March 2026, plus documentation costs.
- The chosen project will get the opportunity to make a public presentation at Bazaar Festival 2026 (either as work-in-progress or a premiere of the project depending on the current state of the work)
- Basic PR, producing and technical support will be provided by the festival prior to the presentation at Bazaar festival.
- The detailed conditions of the support will be agreed mutually and contracted.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Close cooperation with Bazaar Festival team on expenses and expenditure, meeting internal deadlines for PR materials and deliverables of the co-production. (For this reason, they recommend applicants have a manager or producer in their team.)
- Display of the co-production support on all promotional materials according to PR guidelines to be provided by Bazaar Festival and the Nature of Us project.
- Provide text, photo and video material about the co-production until 30th April 2026 for documentation and reporting purposes.
Eligibility Criteria
- Cross-sectoral, art-science performative work in development that deals with the natural world, climate change, environmental art.
- Small or middle scale professional artistic cooperation that contextualizes science in the core of the artistic work and/or involved scientists in the artistic process.
- Courageous performing art practice of artists based in Nature of Us partners’ countries Slovakia, Hungary, Czech Republic or Poland. International teams are welcome but the registered office and main area of operation of the artistic group must be in one of the Nature of Us partner countries: Slovakia, Hungary, Czech Republic or Poland.
- The work can already have additional support or co-financing but it is not a requirement, nor is it an advantage. Please provide a realistic calculation in relation to your concept, up until the point of work-in-progress or premiere to be presented at the Bazaar Festival in 2026.
Selection Criteria
- The following aspects will be considered:
- Concept
- Scientific partnership: quality and depth of professional collaboration with environmental scientists.
- The extent to which the co-production support could contribute to the artists’ plans at this point in their career.
- Match between the artists’ plans and Nature of Us’ mission.
- Professional background of the applicant.
- Realistic budget plan.
- Clarity and feasibility of the artistic plans.
- Quality of the materials provided in the application.
