Deadline: 28-Sep-2025
The British Embassy in San Jose, Costa Rica is inviting small-scale proposals from civil society organisations that use public data to promote human rights and environmental protection.
Up to US $10,000 is available for projects that run from October 2025 through March 2026, giving eligible groups a limited window to make an impact through data-driven action.
Organisations based in Costa Rica, operating as non-profits, NGOs or multilateral bodies with experience in civic technology, public data usage, environmental or human rights advocacy, and community engagement are encouraged to apply. Applicants must show how they will use public data to enhance transparency, strengthen accountability, and drive social or environmental outcomes. Special emphasis is given to including women and marginalised communities, improving data literacy, and ensuring that the project’s impact continues after the funding ends.
Proposals must be submitted in U.S. dollars, with administrative costs limited to no more than ten percent of the total budget. Projects must have clear monitoring, evaluation, risk management, and sustainability plans. Project activities begin October 20, 2025, and conclude by the end of March 2026.
This is a chance for Costa Rican civil society to pioneer high-value small projects that leverage open data to improve public transparency, defend rights, and protect the environment, while strengthening local capacities and ensuring inclusion.
