The Legal Empowerment Fund (LEF) has launched a compelling new call for applications specifically targeting grassroots organizations in the Caribbean that are addressing land and environmental justice through legal empowerment.
This funding opportunity invites groups rooted in their communities to harness advocacy, legal education, and rights-based strategies to safeguard land, combat environmental threats, and advance climate resilience.
Eligible grassroots organizations from a broad range of Caribbean nations—including Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Belize, Haiti, Jamaica, Guyana, the Dominican Republic, and others—can apply for grants ranging from USD $10,000 to $30,000. This support is intended to bolster community-driven responses to urgent environmental and justice challenges.
LEF emphasizes the vital role of local advocates in confronting issues such as land grabbing, pollution, and climate disaster impacts—problems often exacerbated by unchecked extractive industries. The fund aims to strengthen the capacity of these groups, who operate with limited resources, recognizing them as essential defenders of community rights and ecosystems in need.
This initiative offers Caribbean civil society actors a rare opportunity to access flexible funding that empowers them to use legal tools to protect both land and people.
