Nominations are now open for the 2021 Environment Southland Community Awards for many community groups, schools, businesses and farmers are taking action to make a significant difference to the environment.
Environment Southland wants to recognise and reward those unsung heroes in the community that are taking a leading role in the environmental space.
You can nominate yourself or someone else/a group/business/ farm/school that you’re involved with or know about whose activities are benefitting the environment.
If you are putting forward someone else, they must sign the form so they can be sure they agree to being nominated.
Categories
- Environmental Action in the Community: This award recognises groups that are working collaboratively within their community to enhance Southland’s environment.
- Environmental Leadership in Farming: This award recognises whole-farm approaches to environmental issues and innovations in farm practices, water management and land management in Southland.
- Environmental Action in Biodiversity and Biosecurity: This award recognises projects/actions that support biodiversity and/or biosecurity in Southland.
- Environmental Action in Education: This award recognises environmentally-focused projects in education.
- Individual Environmental Action or Leadership: This award recognises an individual whose leadership, action, support of others and effectiveness to collaborate and influence others is making a significant contribution to Southland’s environment.
- Environmental Action in Water Quality Improvement: This award recognises individuals, groups, businesses or farms that are taking action to improve water quality within Southland.
- Environmental Leadership and Innovation in Business: This award recognises commercial entities that are operating with an environmental ethos and are showing leadership within the business community.
Prizes and Awards Ceremory
- The winning entries will receive prizes courtesy of the sponsors that include cash and/or vouchers.
- All nominees will be invited to attend the awards dinner to be held on Friday 29 October at the Ascot Park Hotel, Invercargill, where the winners will be announced.
Eligibility Criteria
- All projects/actions must either be located in the Southland region, have been developed in Southland or be of demonstrable benefit to Southland’s environment.
- Previous nominees and highly commended nominees may be nominated again only if there have been significant advances or improvements on projects/actions previously considered.
Judging Criteria
- Nominees will receive a follow-up call to confirm receipt of the nomination and to discuss the process for judging.
- Judges may make a site visit at a pre-arranged time between 16 August and 22 September to meet nominees and assess projects and actions.
