Deadline: 23-Aug-2025
The French Embassy in Haiti, through its Cooperation and Cultural Action Service, has launched a new funding initiative titled “Support for strengthening civil society actions for women’s rights and gender equality in Haiti.”
This program aims to support micro-development projects implemented by Haitian civil society organizations. It focuses on empowering these local organizations while enhancing their structural capacity and visibility among institutional partners.
Selected organizations will receive grants of up to €45,000, covering up to 90 percent of the total project cost. Applicants are required to provide at least 10 percent of the funding through co-financing. This financial assistance is intended to support impactful local development efforts that contribute to meaningful change in Haitian society, particularly in areas related to women’s rights and gender equality.
The program prioritizes two key thematic areas. The first is advocacy and defense of women’s rights, targeting initiatives that seek to influence public policy and protect the rights of women through community and institutional engagement. The second is the empowerment of women in conjunction with combating climate change, supporting projects that foster economic autonomy for women while addressing environmental challenges.
Two distinct funding windows are available under the 2025–2026 program. The first is dedicated to small and less structured organizations looking to launch innovative economic empowerment projects. Grants under this window range from €10,000 to €20,000 and aim to build the organizational and project management capacity of these grassroots groups. The goal is to help them establish long-term, sustainable impacts within their communities.
The second window is tailored to more structured and experienced organizations with existing programs in the field. These groups may apply for up to €45,000 to deepen their advocacy work and amplify their influence on gender equality issues. Projects selected under this window are expected to have strategic significance, contributing to shifts in public policies and social practices. A key evaluation criterion will be the organization’s ability to collaborate with local authorities and decentralized institutions during implementation.
The entire funding program has an indicative budget of €150,000 and supports projects lasting up to 18 months. A technical pre-selection phase will be conducted jointly by the Embassy and the designated operator. This process will help identify promising proposals, strengthen dialogue with project leaders, and finalize budgets and project design prior to full selection.
Operators interested in participating must demonstrate strong experience in local development, project monitoring, and micro-project support. They should also possess in-depth knowledge of the Haitian context, including civil society dynamics and relevant legal frameworks. Proficiency in both French and Creole is essential for effective implementation and communication throughout the project cycle.
