Deadline: 03-Aug-2025
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is inviting grant applications to support youth-focused environmental empowerment trainings across the Asia-Pacific region. The initiative falls under UNDP’s Youth Empowerment for Climate Action Platform (YECAP), which is dedicated to empowering young people—especially women and Indigenous youth—through legal and environmental justice.
This effort aims to recognize youth as key agents of change in promoting environmental and climate justice. It also seeks to equip them with the tools to address the triple planetary crisis by expanding civic space, raising awareness of environmental rights, and encouraging active participation in climate governance.
The program focuses on solutions to environmental injustices affecting youth in Asia-Pacific and aims to scale up impact through civic engagement and legal empowerment. Activities will include youth training sessions, public awareness campaigns, and contributions to climate policy discussions. These activities will be supported by collaborations with youth organizations, civil society groups, academics, and other relevant stakeholders.
The project duration is set for a maximum of 12 months, running from August 2025 to August 2026. The plan includes four trainings: two in-person sessions in Nepal and Pakistan, and two virtual sessions for youth in Indonesia and Bangladesh. Local youth leaders trained through these modules will serve as “Climate Champions,” sharing knowledge within their communities.
Additional activities will involve sharing training resources with broader networks, launching joint social media campaigns focused on local environmental issues, and drafting youth perspectives on Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and climate goals in the target countries. These campaigns will also contribute to unified messaging for COP 30.
Eligible applicants must have at least three years of experience in youth empowerment, community building, and social impact work. They should have successfully implemented at least two comparable projects worth a minimum of USD 40,000 each within the last three years. The average annual turnover must be at least USD 80,000 based on audited reports from 2023 and 2024.
Applicants must not be debarred or sanctioned by the UN, World Bank, or similar international organizations. They must also be legally eligible to contract with UNDP and operate in the respective countries. Proposals will be evaluated based on a combined score of 70% technical merit and 30% cost, with a minimum technical passing score of 70%. Full acceptance of UNDP’s General Terms and Conditions is mandatory.
