The project “Communities resistant to climate change through women’s empowerment” is a project funded by Sweden and implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP Moldova) from March 2020 to March 2023.
The aim of the project is to create inclusive, long-term and sustainable communities and create favorable conditions for expanding the economic, social and educational opportunities of women.
To achieve the results of the Project, a number of thematic documents and studies will be developed on building the capacity of target groups, including a program on building the institutional capacity of NGOs, which are important stakeholders in the field of environmental protection and sustainable development and which have an important role in influencing local politics.
The main activities of the Program are:
- project management;
- technical skills and resources;
- financial management and internal control;
- administrative skills in the field of procurement and recruitment.
The program will be implemented by an international company specializing in building the institutional capacity of NGOs.The project goal will be achieved through four results:
- Identification of reliable, climate-resilient and environmentally sound livelihoods, as well as the strengthening and successful implementation of local capacities and knowledge on environmental issues, climate change and gender issues;
- Strengthening the capacity of NGOs to provide expertise to MCPAs and women in the areas of climate resilience, sustainable development and gender mainstreaming;
- Environmentally friendly and climate-resilient practices and projects implemented by women heads of households, women food producers and rural communities;
- Climate-resistant practice, as well as the dissemination and replication of business models.
- The project will provide financial, technical and informational assistance to 30 villages, more than 60 women heads of households and at least 10 women producers to strengthen their ability to adapt to climate change and to develop income-generating and climate-resilient activities.
- Local government will receive assistance to build capacity and integrate environmental protection and adaptation to climate change, as well as gender equality in local development plans.
- Under the project, NGOs, especially in target regions, will strengthen their capacities and provide local authorities and women with the necessary expertise in the field of climate resilience, disaster risk management and sustainable development, taking into account the gender dimension.
- Sustainable business practices and models for climate change will be promoted by women heads of households, women agricultural producers and villages.
- Successful lessons learned will be disseminated and accepted outside 30 beneficiary villages as part of the project.
- The target group for the institutional capacity development program is environmental NGOs in the field of environment, sustainable development, change climate and other related areas in the country, in particular in targeted areas and regions (Nisporeni, Calarasi, Basarabasca, Leova, ATU Gagauzia, Zone security and the Transnistrian region) or adjacent areas that are on based on an Expression of Interest (EFL) form and related supporting documents will apply for competition initiated by the project “Climate-resilient communities through empowerment women.
- Based on this invitation to express interest, six (6) NGOs selected to become beneficiaries of the program development of organizational capacity.
Compliance Criteria
- The applicant is an organization registered in accordance with applicable law.
- Organization experience of at least 3 years.
- The purpose and scope of the applicant includes activities related to areas of sustainable community development in the context of climate change, environmental protection, ecology, gender integration in climate aspects and environment, other activities / areas relevant environmental protection and climate change.
- Recently, the organization is not involved or did not take advantage similar capacity development program provided by others technical assistance projects or international organizations / institutions, in particular provided by Sweden.
- Experience in implementing projects in the field of environment and climate change at local / regional level (minimum 2-3 projects) for the last 5-7 years.
- At least 2 permanent or temporary employees.
- NGOs must have the necessary equipment to provide the proper operations of the organization (at least one computer and a printer).
- Participation of organization representatives in educational trainings in the field of environment, climate change and / or gender.
