Youth-led Action Initiative (YAI) is a global initiative of UNICEF to empower young people as changemakers and advocates for prominent issues that they care about. It’s part of UNICEF’s global shift from young people having ‘a seat at the table’ to young people taking action in their own lives and in their communities. The initiative aims to establish strong partnerships with young people, empower connected youth-led groups who are well-equipped to lead change for a better world.

Expected Results
- Project Output 1: Implementation of Phase I – Outreach:
- Increase awareness among Vietnamese adolescents and young people aged 15-24 on YAI, thus encouraging them to register for the programme trainings and activities.
- Guidance:
- Conduct TOT sessions for selected young changemakers from previous YAI cohort and selected youth-led host organization to have a group of well-trained YAI facilitators.
- Conduct awareness-raising and communication campaign targeting Vietnamese adolescents and youth aged 15-24, with a special focus on young girls and vulnerable groups (youth with disabilities, migrant youth, youth from ethnic minorities, etc.).
- Organize information sessions if needed (can be virtual) for young people to better understand YAI and clarify any potential questions about the programme.
- Indicators:
- At least 10 YAI youth facilitators (young changemakers from previous YAI co-hort and the hosted youth-led organization) were selected and trained on YAG and facilitation skills.
- At least 10,000 adolescents and young people indirectly reach (through media coverage, social media impressions and engagement, etc.) throughout the promotion and outreach activities.
- At least 120 adolescent and young girls aged 15-24 selected to participate in YAG training.
- Project Output 2: Implementation of Phase II – Training Conduct YAG Trainings
- Guidance:
- Organize 3 to 4-day YAG training to equip young participants with essential skills on advocacy, can be delivered consecutively in 01 week or flexibly arranged in different weeks, subject to young people’s preferences.
- Review training design and fine tune training materials.
- Mentors identified and confirmed to support selected youth-led advocacy projects in Phase III.
- Indicators:
- 120 adolescent and young girls aged 15-24 are trained on UNICEF Youth Action Guide (YAG).
- Positive feedback from participants through end of training surveys.
- Guidance:
- Project Output 3: Implementation of Phase III – Advocacy Projects Execution:
- Provide seed funding for youth-led advocacy groups and monitor the implementation of selected projects.
- Guidance:
- Provide seed funding to all youth groups for them to implement their advocacy plans based on chosen thematic topics (to be defined).
- Mentorship mechanism to ensure on-going supporting system for all youth groups.
- Conduct monthly progress catch up (can be online or offline) with all youth participants and mentors to ensure connections, peer learning, and effective implementation.
- Reports of all youth projects on key achievements and lessons learned. Templates will be discussed and co-finalized between UNICEF and the implementing youth-led organization
- Indicators:
- Advocacy plans based on chosen thematic topics are implemented and financially liquidated by December 2025. All reports from youth groups timely submitted to UNICEF.
- Each group is paired with at least 01 mentor to guide and support them in developing their advocacy agenda.
- All reports from youth groups are timely submitted.
