The West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) invites civil society organisations to apply for an intensive Capacity Building Programme on Digital Rights Advocacy, Activism, and Security.
The programme aims to equip participating organisations with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively advocate for digital rights, leverage digital tools for impactful activism, and significantly enhance their digital security posture.
Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the digital rights landscape, learn to design and implement effective online advocacy campaigns, master tools and techniques for secure communication and data protection, and develop strategies to mitigate digital risks and respond to threats. With an overarching goal to empower organisations with the right skillsets to operate more safely and effectively in the digital space, strengthen their resilience and amplify their voices in the pursuit of a more open, inclusive, and rights-respecting digital environment in West Africa.
Timeframe
- The workshop phase of the capacity building programme spans through September to October 2025, while the action planning and implementation phase would hold from November 2025 to October 2027 with technical support from WACSI team.
Target Audience
- The capacity building programme will target fifty (50) civil society organisations, ten (10) from each target country including Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia, Côte d’Ivoire and Guinea (Conakry). Each organisation will have two (2) representatives to participate in the year programme.
Eligibility Criteria
- Interested organisations must:
- Be legally registered and actively operating within one of the target countries i.e., Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia, Côte d’Ivoire, or Guinea (Conakry).
- Demonstrate alignment with core themes of human rights, democracy, social justice, civic engagement, or related areas where digital rights advocacy, activism, and security are increasingly relevant to their operations and impact.
- Be willing and able to nominate two (2) staff members to participate in the entire duration of the workshop and post-workshop engagements such as action planning, implementation, advocacy designs, monitoring, convenings, CoP engagements amongst others.
- Ensure nominated representatives hold positions that allow them to directly contribute to the development and implementation of the organisation’s post-workshop action plans on digital rights and security practices, advocacy and outreach efforts.
