Deadline: 30-Jun-25
Applicants are now invited to submit applications for the 34th Edition Student Competition.
Recognized throughout the world, with its thirty-four editions in twenty-six languages, Le Monde diplomatique opens its columns to you thanks to a competition organized by the Friends of Le Monde diplomatique (AMD).
No need for degrees or connections in journalism; simply bring a good idea and rigorous investigative or reporting work. Take a chance, dare to defend an original subject by shedding light on it with indisputable information, and by making it accessible through writing that is as clear as it is polished. Like the monthly, topics related to international, political, economic, and social news will be prioritized.
Rules of the Game
- The texts and files must reach the AMD.
- Articles that do not meet the usual standards of spelling and syntax accuracy, as well as the journal’s areas of interest, will not be answered. The same applies to plagiarized articles.
- Receipt of a proposal does not in any way imply an obligation to publish.
- The best entry will be determined by a jury composed of journalists and staff from Le Monde diplomatique.
- The winner will see their article published in the monthly at the end of 2025 and paid.
Application Requirements
- Send an original article of 12,000 characters (including spaces) written in French.
- Don’t forget to include a document stating your name, age, the studies you are pursuing, a scan of your valid student card and your email address.
- Apart from italics, avoid all enrichments: bold, words in capital letters (including in the titles of reading notes or signatures), right alignment, etc.
- Italicize quotes, including quotation marks.
- Insert “endnotes” (not footnotes), indicated by Arabic numerals. In Word: Insert ÿ note ÿ endnotes ÿ Options: end of document, format: 1,2,3.
- Use French quotation marks: << >> (and not “”, except in internal quotation marks). They will appear automatically if the document language is set to << French >> (in Word: select all (keyboard shortcut: apple a on Mac, CTRL a on PC), Tools ÿ Language ÿ French. Repeat in the notes if necessary).
- References of publications cited in footnotes: For books: author’s name, title in italics, publisher, city of publication, year of publication. For newspaper and magazine articles: article title in quotation marks, publication title in italics, city, date of publication. For journal articles: author’s name, title in quotation marks, journal title in italics, issue, city of publication, date of publication.
