The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is requesting for proposals for Establishing Crowdfunding Academy as a Training for CSO’s in Maldives.
United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), and Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development (ISFD) recognize the significant role of CSOs, including Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), as valuable development partners that help to promote citizen participation, enhance sustainability, and alleviate poverty to accelerate progress towards the SDGs. Access to finance remains one of the main challenges for CSOs and NGOs.
Scope of Work
The consulting firm is expected to undertake several activities as fundamental requirements to establish the Crowdfunding Academy. The following outlines the main duties and responsibilities of the consulting firm to operationalize a crowdfunding platform for Maldives and support CSO’s in developing and launching their campaigns.
- Duration of the Assignment
- The service should take a total of 75 days to complete from April to November 2022
Expected Outputs and Deliverables
CSO networks are established and CSO impact on development interventions is strengthened through improved access to alternative finance mechanisms. The project will provide technical support to CSOs in Maldives on building their ecosystems for developing alternative finance mechanisms, as well as links to a broad network of partners with expertise in these emerging areas. Concrete activities will include:
- Develop a database (with details include but not limited to type of organization, organization name, contact person, title/role, email, field of work, description, list of activities, additional notes, existing campaigns, link) for the selected CSO’s in line with privacy protection measures, and a booklet summarizing the key statistics about the CSO sector in Maldives;
- Capacity building for 25 CSOs and supporting them to create their own crowdfunding campaigns in cooperation with crowdfunding platforms or blockchain platforms;
- Partnership referral to investors and partners that are leading in innovations, socialentrepreneurship, resource mobilization, and impact measurement; and with CSOs and CSO networks operating in the country.

- Proven ability of delivering high quality products.
- Must possess excellent communication and coordination skills.
Required Skills and Experience
- Minimum of 2 relevant projects within the last 7 years in organizing programs/projects related to crowdfunding training/workshops for national implementation with internationally acknowledged expertise and experience in crowdfunding ecosystem.
- Demonstrated international experience in close engagement with the SDGs in various contexts.
- Strong knowledge and experience from previous similar program, studies, and workshops carried out in South Asia,
- Hold a broad range of skills and credentials relevant to this assignment, including integrating and analyzing the crowdfunding landscape, advising stakeholders on establishing campaigns, designing strategy, and developing curriculum/syllabus/model of training/workshops.
- Proven convening power and extensive experience in creating coalitions, such as successful track record in convening stakeholders, bringing all social forces (government, business/industry, civil society, and academia) together.
