Applications are now open for the Australia Awards scholarships which are prestigious international awards offered by the Australian Government to the next generation of global leaders for development. Through study and research, recipients develop the skills and knowledge to drive change and help build enduring people-to-people links with Australia.
Applicants are assessed on their professional and personal qualities, academic competence, and, most importantly, their potential to make a positive impact on development challenges in Mongolia.
Applications are strongly encouraged from women, people living in rural areas, people with disability, and other marginalized groups.
Priority Fields of Study
The priority areas of study for Mongolia are:
- Agriculture and Environmental Studies
- Education
- Engineering, Mining, and Construction
- Health
- Information and Communications Technology
- Management, Business, and Commerce
- Public Sector Management
- Society, Culture, and Development Studies
Level of Study
- Australia Awards scholarships provide citizens of Mongolia with the opportunity to obtain a postgraduate qualification at an Australian tertiary institution.
- Awards will be offered for commencement in 2023 within the following allocations:
- Category 1: public sector receives 50 percent of scholarships
- Category 2: private sector (including civil society and international organizations) receives 50 percent of scholarships
Australia Awards Benefits
- Australia Awards scholarships are offered for the minimum period necessary for the individual to complete the academic program specified by the Australian education institution, including any preparatory training.
- Scholarship recipients will receive the following:
- return air travel
- a one-off establishment allowance on arrival
- full tuition fees
- contribution to living expenses
- introductory academic program
- overseas student health cover for the duration of the scholarship
- supplementary academic support, and
- fieldwork allowance for research students and masters by coursework which has a compulsory fieldwork component.
Eligibility Criteria
- English language proficiency
- An applicant must have achieved an Academic IELTS score of 6.5 or higher (with no individual band score of less than 6.0) or an equivalent iBT-TOEFL or PTE score before receiving a final unconditional offer of scholarship.
- Country-specific conditions
- In addition to the eligibility requirements, candidates from Mongolia must also meet the following country-specific conditions:
- applicants require a full-time bachelor’s degree from a university with a GPA of no less than 3.0. If a GPA score is not explicitly stated in the graduation diploma, applicants must obtain relevant GPA certification from their respective universities
- when applying, applicants must have achieved an IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0 (with no individual band score of less than 5.5) or an equivalent iBT-TOEFL or PTE Academic score. Scores must be valid on 1 January 2023. If selected, provisional awardees will be offered up to six months of English language training in Mongolia. Provisional awardees who do not achieve IELTS 6.5 or equivalent by the end of the English language training will forfeit their scholarship
- applicants (apart from those with an identified and verified disability) must demonstrate at least two years’ continuous employment, up to 1 February 2022 (maternity leave excepted). Category 1 applicants are required to have worked in the public sector for two years before 1 February 2022
- applicants with identified and verified disabilities do not need to demonstrate two years’ continuous employment. Applicants should be aware that Australian and Mongolian classifications of what constitutes a disability is different, and existing medical/health conditions will not be accepted as a disability
