The Australia Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is inviting applications for the Australia Awards Scholarship in Solomon Islands.
Australia Awards scholarships are prestigious international awards offered by the Australian Government to the next generation of global leaders for development. Through study and research, recipients develop the skills and knowledge to drive change and help build enduring people-to-people links with Australia.
Australia’s international development assistance in the Solomon Islands is supporting health security, stability, and economic recovery.
Applications are strongly encouraged from women, people with disability, and other marginalized groups. Candidates with a disability will be supported to enable equal participation throughout the application and selection process, and while on-award.

Level of Study
- Australia Awards scholarships provide citizens of Solomon Islands with the opportunity to obtain a qualification at an Australian tertiary institution.
- Awards will be offered for commencement in 2023 at the undergraduate level (bachelor) and postgraduate level (masters, research degrees). (Awards are not available for vocational education and training, diploma, or graduate diploma studies.)
Australia Awards Benefits
- Australia Awards scholarships are offered for the minimum period necessary for the individual to complete the academic program specified by the Australian education institution, including any preparatory training.
- Scholarship recipients will receive the following:
- return air travel
- a one-off establishment allowance on arrival
- full tuition fees
- contribution to living expenses
- introductory academic program
- overseas student health cover for the duration of the scholarship
- supplementary academic support
- fieldwork allowance for research students and masters by coursework which has a compulsory fieldwork component.
Eligibility Criteria
- Country-specific conditions
- In addition to the eligibility requirements, candidates from the Solomon Islands must also meet the following conditions:
- must have completed Year 12/Form 6 and have an aggregate score between 4 and 11; above 11 is not eligible
- may apply while completing Year 13/Form 7 in 2022 (final Year 13/Form 7 results must be submitted once received)
- must not hold an equivalent or higher qualification at the time of application, or commencement of scholarship, and
- must be applying to study in Australia for a bachelor (maximum duration 4-years), master’s, or postgraduate research degree in a priority field of study.
- In addition to the eligibility requirements, candidates from the Solomon Islands must also meet the following conditions:
- English language proficiency
- Applicants must be able to satisfy all relevant university admission requirements, including English language proficiency.
- Successful applicants will be required to undertake an English language test and must achieve an IELTS Academic score of at least 6.5 (with no band score less than 6.0), or an equivalent TOEFL score of at least 84 (with a minimum of 21 in all sub-tests), or a PTE Academic score of at least 58 (with no communicative skill score less than 50).
