The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada (APF Canada) is committed to fostering the next generation of Asia Pacific researchers and practitioners.
Benefits
The Fellow will work under the mentorship of one or more of the Foundation’s program managers, and will engage in the following activities:
- Design visualization/infographic booklets to demonstrate Canada-Asia relations;
- Assist with organizing a student competition project;
- Assist with data analysis; and
- Conduct research related to provincial-level relations with Asia.
Compensation
The Junior Research Fellowship grant will be for $4,725.00. The grant will be paid in 3 equal installments of $1,575.00 on a monthly basis.
Start/End Dates
The successful applicant should be able to complete the fellowship for 12 weeks, from October 1 to December 21, 2018. Depending on project needs, there is a possibility of extension.
Desired Skills and Abilities
- Excellent quantitative and qualitative research skills;
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing;
- Experience in research related statistics gathering and analysis;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (including strong MS Excel skills);
- Interest and experience in data visualization, e.g. infographics;
- Experience in event organization or coordination; and
- Demonstrated interest in contemporary Canada-Asia relations, including policy and trade issues.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants should be Canadian citizens or permanent residents who are currently enrolled in an upper-level undergraduate or masters-level program, or who have completed their degree programs within the previous 12 months. Applicants should be eligible to work in Canada.
- The successful applicant will be encouraged to work out of the Foundation’s head office in downtown Vancouver and be willing to contribute 24 hours per week (three work days) during regular office hours (9:00am-5:00pm). The student will not be required to work on statutory holidays.

- 1-page cover letter detailing the applicant’s research interests, career interests and goals, how they hope to benefit from the fellowship, and why they are interested in working in the thematic area specified in the call for applications;
- A short writing sample (no more than 15 pages double-spaced in English);
- Copy of applicant’s university transcript (scanned or electronic copies are acceptable);
- Name, title and contact information (email and phone number) for one academic or professional reference. References will be contacted only if the applicant is short-listed for the fellowship.
