Applications are open for PAYK Investigative Journalism Fellowship Program with an aim to support in-depth- coverage of critical issues related to government accountability and transparency in Afghanistan. This fellowship is supported by the USAID funded Rasana Program, implemented by Internews.
The PAYK Investigative Journalism Fellowship, 2017 will be awarded to investigative journalists who fulfill the eligibility and application criteria. Six awards of USD 1000 each will be available for each Fellowship, to be completed within a four month period. Fellows will receive the amount in three instalments(30% upon selection, 40% upon submission of the report’s first draft and 30% after the report is published). The PAYK Investigative Journalism Centre will also provide mentoring support to the recipients of the fellowships.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants to this fellowship are required to submit an application proposal outlining the reporting assignment to be undertaken, within a four-month period, following the awarding of the fellowship.
- In addition to explaining the topic to be addressed, the application proposal should outline the approach as well as practical and logistical steps that will be taken to complete it.
- Each successful applicant will receive an award of 1000 USD each to produce an investigative report for public dissemination.
- Six Investigative Journalism Fellowships will be awarded by PAYK in 2017, three for Kabul reporters and three for reporters from the provinces.
- Two of the six Fellowships will be awarded to female investigative journalists.
Selection Criteria
- Quality and relevance of proposed topic investigative report, clarity of description of proposed approach, story treatment and journalistic focus
- Applicants past experience and track record in investigative reporting
- Applications will be evaluated and selected by a six person committee. Shortlisted applicants will be notified within 2 weeks after the deadlines for applications.
