Starting in 2020, each year the UK Fellows Programme brings together 20 extraordinary individuals who are tackling most pressing social issues – and equips them with the knowledge, skills and community to accelerate and sustain their impact. Fellows come from all walks of life and are embedded within a broad range of disciplines; they are championing neglected causes, catalysing social entrepreneurship, pioneering inclusive business, reimagining public policy and building bold movements.
Over the course of a year Fellows immerse themselves in a series of week-long residentials and virtual seminars, designed to increase their capacity to work across lines of difference, create collective action and build solutions for interconnected challenges.
Fellows join Acumen’s global community of social innovators – connected to lifelong learning, collaboration and accompaniment as they drive change.
What is expect from the fellowship:
The Fellow programme develops your capacity to take on long standing problems of poverty and injustice. You should expect an intensive year –long leadership journey grounded in:
- Learning that is immediately applied to your work;
- Diverse cohorts from across sectors and background;
- Peer coaching that challenges and accompanies you in your practice.
- Learning’s form acumen’s global community social innovators.
Programme Structure
Over the course of a year you will be immersed in a series of virtual seminars and in person residentials held across the UK. Designed around your role. The overall time commitment is 25 days and programme cost are covered by acumen.
- Residential: 5 days full time (12th to 16th August 2020);
- Virtual Seminars: 5 Weeks, 8 Hours per week (September and October 2020);
- Residential: 5 Days full time (25th to 29th November 2020);
- Virtual Seminars: 5 Weeks, 8 Hours per week (January and February 2021);
- Residential: 5 days full time (March 2021).
Fellows are typically on one of the following paths:
- Social Entrepreneurs: Leading organization that develop market based solutions to tackle issues;
- Charity Champion: Building Voluntary organizations that provide support and opportunity to those most in need.
- Corporate Changemaker: Shifting Culture and pioneering inclusive business from within larger corporation
- Public Sector Leader: Reimagining public policy and leveraging the government machinery to drive change.
- Movement Builder: Mobilising communities to create collective action around unseen, unheared or marginalised causes.
What you will practice
Over the fellowship year you will build the tools and mindset to:
- Lead diverse stakeholders through recurring and complex challenges;
- Articulate a vision that speaks across line of difference & moves others into action;
- Understand largers, systematic problems and design more effective interventions;
- Navigate uncertainity and embrace the meaningful process of creating change;
- Cultivate a deeper understanding of yourself and your work in a broder context;
Selection Criteria
All fellows have demonstrated a commitment to tackling inequality and injustice through their work and are:
- Building solutions based on a deep understanding of the issue;
- Making a long term play to change the system you are working in;
- Influencing change in your current work, formally or informally;
- Ready to undergo an intensive year – long leadership journey.
