Deadline: 31-Mar-24
The International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) is offering Short-term Fellowships for Postdoctoral studies at its laboratories in Trieste, Italy; New Delhi, India; and Cape Town, South Africa. The program supports collaborative research between scientists from ICGEB Member States and ICGEB research groups, aiming to provide access to advanced research techniques and strengthen capacity building.
Fellowships are awarded for a duration of one to six months. They include a monthly stipend of Euro 2,000 in Trieste, US$ 1,590 in New Delhi, and ZAR 23,000 in Cape Town. Travel expenses to and from the host laboratory are covered, along with medical insurance for the fellowship period. Visa and permit application or renewal costs are reimbursed. However, the program does not provide financial or administrative support for family members.
Accommodation support differs by location. In Trieste, there is no official housing service, but fellows receive a list of local contacts offering rental options. In New Delhi, on-campus guesthouse facilities are available on a twin-sharing basis for a nominal fee. In Cape Town, accommodation support is arranged before arrival.
Eligible applicants must be nationals of an ICGEB Member State and cannot apply for fellowships in their own country unless they have worked abroad for at least three years. Candidates should hold a recent PhD in Life Sciences or have at least three years of research experience. Preference is given to applicants under 35 years of age. Special funding is available for candidates from Ethiopia and Djibouti through the BIOTECHNET initiative, supported by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS).
Applications are reviewed by the ICGEB Fellowships Selection Committee, and successful candidates are informed by email after the deadline. Selection is based on the scientific quality of the project, the strength of the candidate’s CV, and the potential benefits for their home country.
