Applications are now open for the Advanced Academia Fellowships program for young Bulgarian scientists and activities of the Bulgarian scientific diaspora in the field of humanities and social sciences.
The Advanced Academia is supported by Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Bulgaria and the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation of the Swiss Confederation as a result of a signed Memorandum of Understanding between the two ministries, which is implemented by the Center for Academic Studies Sofia (CAS).
Founded in 2000 with the support of European scientific institutions, the Center for Advanced Study Sofia (CAS) is an independent scientific organization with a strong international and interdisciplinary orientation, whose main goal is the support and development of social sciences and humanities in Bulgaria and the region by providing institutional and financial resources for the professional and academic qualification, growth and full realization of young and established scientists from these scientific fields.
Aims
- The scholarship program aims to promote scientific research at the highest level and the international transfer of knowledge, increase the qualification and support the career development of young Bulgarian scientists in the field of humanities and social sciences.
- Disciplinary, methodological and thematic restrictions regarding project proposals will not be applied. Only the potential of the candidate and the quality of the project are decisive for the selection.
- Fellows will have access to electronic and library resources and will be fully integrated into regular research seminars and discussions on the Center for Academic Research’s ongoing programs.
Benefits
- Will be Provided:
- five 9-month scholarships for young Bulgarian researchers and teachers in the amount of 800 euros per month;
- of which a 1-month stay in a research institution abroad/Europe.
- The scholarship is awarded for the academic year 2023-2024: from October 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024.
Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates are required to be Bulgarian citizens and have a defended doctoral dissertation;
- To be young scientists: postdoctoral fellows, assistants, research associates or associate professors with up to 12 years of experience after defending a dissertation;
- Excellent command of the English language;
- International experience and publications in prestigious scientific journals are an advantage.
- As an international scientific organization, CAS conducts the main part of its scientific activity in English.
Evaluation Criteria
- high quality of the candidate’s academic portfolio and publications, participation in international projects;
- original and innovative research project with substantial contribution;
- preference will be given to projects with an interdisciplinary and/or comparative approach.
