The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) has launched a call for proposals for the Australia Award in Vanuatu.
Australia Awards are prestigious international awards offered by the Australian Government to the next generation of global leaders for development. Through study and research, recipients develop the skills and knowledge to drive change and help build enduring people-to-people links with Australia.
Priority fields of study
Applications for study should align with priorities identified in Australia’s Vanuatu COVID-19 Development Response Plan, Vanuatu’s National Sustainable Development Plan 2016 – 2030, and the Vanuatu Recovery Strategy 2020 – 2023 TC Harold and COVID-19 and seek to address skills gaps identified in Vanuatu’s National Human Resource Development Plan.
Priority fields of study include:
- agriculture, fisheries, forestry, biosecurity
- communications and journalism
- community services (including disability studies and community development)
- economics, commerce, business studies, business administration and accounting
- engineering and information technology
- environment and climate change
- foreign policy and national security
- health and education
- monitoring and evaluation
- policing and justice
- public administration, management, human resources, planning and project management
- humanitarian and disaster response
The governments of Australia and Vanuatu regularly review these areas and adjust the emphasis of the program.
Level of study
Awards will be offered for commencement in 2022 for:
- Undergraduate study (Diploma, Bachelor), and
- Postgraduate study (Graduate Diploma or Masters).
Benefits
Australia Awards Scholarships are offered for the minimum period necessary to complete the academic program specified by the education institution, including any preparatory training.
Scholarships will generally include the following:
- introductory academic program
- full tuition fees
- return air travel
- a one off establishment allowance on arrival
- a contribution to living expenses
- overseas student health cover for the duration of the scholarship
- supplementary academic support
- fieldwork allowance (for research students and masters by course work that has a compulsory fieldwork component).
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants are assessed on their professional and personal qualities, academic competence and, most importantly, their potential to impact on development outcomes in Vanuatu.
- Applications are encouraged from women and men, including people with a disability.
- In addition to the eligibility requirements, candidates from Vanuatu must also meet the following conditions:
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
- Grades of 1 (Distinction) or 2 (Merit) for the top four subjects, including English, for the highest year of school passed
