Deadline: 8-May-23
Journalists are now being invited to submit applications for the Two-way Fellowship on Communicating Just Transition Issues 2023.
This is an opportunity provided by the Lauds Phase 2 programme.
What is Just Transition?
- Climate change is a complex and urgent global challenge, whose impacts increase social inequality among the most diverse populations and, significantly, among workers. As economic sectors are encouraged to adopt more sustainable practices, poorly planned climate action or inaction puts workers in a vulnerable situation, exposing them to conditions of precariousness and insecurity. In this context, the “just transition” represents a path towards a low-carbon economy, in which the future and livelihoods of workers and vulnerable local communities are secured.
The Role of Journalists in The Just Transition
- Journalists have a vital role to play through effective, complex and engaging journalism that sheds a critical light on the path to a greener future, informing and keeping all parties involved in this transition under constant scrutiny.
What Will You Learn?
- After this course, you will have:
- The tools and know-how to report on climate action, inequality and work, based on an understanding of policies, key challenges and current actions in relation to just transition;
- The knowledge to make reports based on the principles of solutions journalism;
- The know-how to work with data visualization in articles about climate;
- The opportunity to receive a grant to produce a story, with the personalized help of a mentor in the development and publication of the work.
- At the end of the program, participants will gain access to the TRF Alumni Club, which will provide a virtual space for continued professional development. The club will feature varied activities, such as expert lectures, master classes, networking opportunities and others. Alumni may also be selected to attend the Thomson Reuters Foundation Annual Conference in London, with flights and accommodation included.
