The Climate Tracker is pleased to announce an unprecedented cycle of the Climate Journalism Mentoring Program for Latin America and the Caribbean.
The program contemplates collective and personalized learning in relevant aspects of climate journalism and the just energy transition for Latin America and the Caribbean.
They will challenge each fellow to experiment and use new media techniques, formats and platforms to tell their stories. Selected fellows will also have the opportunity to network and collaborate with journalists from around the world.
During the fellowship period, each journalist will receive tutorials from their team of mentors, while they work on group trainings to strengthen their knowledge on presenting climate change stories.
Funding Information
The program contemplates a total payment of 600 euros.
During the mentoring, they will ask you to:
- 3 featured stories (at least 3 sources, 1K-1.2K words, 3 photos).
- Adaptations of your stories to newsletters / Podcast contributions on your stories / Instagram Live interviews.
What do they look for in their interns?
- Ideal candidates will have:
- At least one year of experience in journalism
- Hunger to improve as journalists: this is a learning experience
- Proven experience in climate journalism
Some tips for your application
- The entire program is framed in a work around the just energy transition in Latin America and the Caribbean. Before applying, they recommend reviewing their special “Renewable Latin America? A look at the just energy transition from the newsrooms”.
- The topics are possible ideas to address during the program and for your application, all within the framework of the energy transition in your country and in the region.
- Climate policies: they are interested in stories that monitor the implementation of climate policies, in areas such as science, energy, adaptation, transportation, conservation, etc.
- Impacts: Has climate change affected local communities in your country? How? Could these impacts have been avoided? What role did the authorities play? Make sure there is a strong link between your story and the climate crisis.
- Covid-19 pandemic: Has the pandemic affected climate plans in your country? Is your country investing in renewable energy or fossil fuels for its recovery strategy?
- Solutions: Have communities in your area implemented new environmental solutions? Are they related to a larger framework, such as NDCs, carbon credits, etc.? What limitations do they have?
