Centre for Stories is pleased to announce the second year of the Maria Pallotta-Chiarolli Fellowship for Writers, supported by generous donors Baden Offord, John Ryan, Christopher Macfarlane and Centre for Stories’ founders John and Caroline Wood.
Open to mid-career writers, the fellowship is awarded to someone in recognition of their literary achievements and commitment to humanity demonstrated through their active participation and engagement in social justice issues. Applicants must be under the age of 40 and identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, LGBTQIA+, living with a disability, or culturally and linguistically diverse.
Funding Information
- The recipient of this fellowship will be awarded $12,000 AUD.
- A workspace at the Centre for Stories.
- Access and use of the Centre for Stories’ library.
- Access to Centre for Stories’ workshops (including oral storytelling training), book clubs and other events.
- The fellowship will take place over any three-month period prior to June 2023.
Eligibility Criteria
- Open to writers under the age of 40.
- Applicants must identify as belonging to one of the following groups:
- Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
- LGBTQIA+
- Living with a disability
- Culturally and linguistically diverse.
- Applicants must have at least one, and no more than three, trade published book/s of fiction,
- Creative non-fiction or poetry. Works of translation will be accepted. Self-published books are not acceptable.
- Applicants must be a permanent resident or Australian citizen.
- Applicants must be working on an unpublished manuscript.
- Applicants currently enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate university course are not eligible.
