The Saïd Foundation is now accepting applications for its Scholarship Programme.
They offer scholarships for one-year master’s degree courses in the UK.
There are no restrictions on academic subjects but candidates must demonstrate that their subject will enable them to contribute to the development of their home country.
The Saïd Foundation has offered educational scholarships and training opportunities since 1984. The programme aims to empower people through educational opportunities and to encourage the development of the Middle East. It is targeted towards outstanding individuals with leadership potential who will be drivers of positive change within their target countries of Syria, Jordan, Lebanon and Palestine.
Eligibility Criteria
- They may consider an application for study at a non-partner university but only if the candidate’s proposed course is not offered by a partner university. If you have selected a non-university partner you must explain why in your application form or your application will not be considered for a scholarship.
- In order to be considered for a Saïd Foundation scholarship all candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Hold Syrian, Jordanian, Lebanese or Palestinian nationality and permanently reside in one of these countries. The Foundation will consider Syrians residing elsewhere due to current circumstances in that country.
- Hold an undergraduate degree that is equivalent to a UK 2:1 degree or higher. Candidates who are in the final year of their undergraduate degree will also be considered.
- Have work and/or voluntary experience that is relevant to their field of study and a clear career path on completion of their studies and return to their home country or region.
- Demonstrate leadership potential in their chosen field or sector.
- Have applied for an eligible course at a Foundation partner university (or have legitimate exceptional reasons for applying to a non-partner university).
- Meet the Foundation’s English language requirements (IELTS of 6.0 overall with at least 6.0 in each band or equivalent score in an alternative English language test). Some universities have higher requirements; candidates must to meet the English language requirements of their chosen university too.

- Who can be a referee and what should be included?
- It is important to select your referees carefully. They must be known to you and must not be a relative or a close personal friend. You must provide three different references – one academic, one professional and one voluntary.
- An academic Referee
- They must be an academic who has taught you.
- They should comment in detail on your academic ability including your final position in the class (e.g. 1st out of 15 students).
- They should also comment on your potential to complete a demanding postgraduate programme in the UK.
- A professional Referee
- They can be either a current or recent employer.
- They should comment on your role and experience and how it is relevant to your chosen course.
- They should also comment on your leadership skills and experience and potential to bring change in your field.
- If you do not have any professional experience then you must provide a second academic or voluntary reference.
- A voluntary or extra-curricular Referee
- They should be an individual who can comment on your voluntary or community service.
- They should comment on your role and how long you have participated in the voluntary or extra-curricular activity.
- They should also comment on your commitment to the role and provide details of any notable achievements.
