Deadline: 31-Dec-22
Applications are now open for the Teach For Kosova Fellowship, a two-year teaching program that develops outstanding Kosovar leaders.
Purpose
- The purpose of the Fellowship, and especially the leadership development aspect, is to challenge Fellows to see educational issues in broader terms. Excellent teaching is vital; however, they want their fellows to be aware of the conditions that surround a classroom environment and hinder a teacher’s work.
- This also starts from understanding the roles of the Directorates of Education to recognize the system barriers that are current and do not allow their education system to reach its potential. The knowledge they gain during the Fellowship will allow them to work both individually and collectively to address these issues.
Benefits
- This fellowship will help these teachers reach their professional and leadership potential while committed to their teaching and classroom work.
- Teach For Kosova teachers will be placed in public schools and will be supported for two years with intensive training for leadership development.
- Throughout the two-year program, Fellows will have ongoing support from a variety of experienced mentors, ensuring that they best lead their classrooms and have a positive impact on students.
How can they have an impact?
- 42% of the country’s population is under the age of 25, so the role that Teach For Kosova members will play will be decisive. Fellows during their work in the classroom will leave an impact that will continue to be present even after they complete the program and become alumni.
- Teaching for change
- Through teaching, Fellows will have the unique opportunity to change the future of Kosovo’s children. The role of Fellows is to be role models for their students. They will support these students in their academic careers by providing continuous information about the quality of student learning, collaborating with teaching colleagues, parents, community members and leaders in order to achieve the intended results. Teach For Kosovo will support and train Fellows who will equip their students with the knowledge, skills and abilities needed for the 21st century.
- A transformative experience
- The leadership journey of a fellow of Teach for Kosova will be a challenging journey, where as teachers they will face and deal with various issues of the education system. During this time they will learn from these experiences to become better and to discover their abilities, skills and values and to take on responsibilities that are greater than themselves. Fellows will form meaningful relationships and develop skills that will be necessary to be successful in the fields they intend to pursue after completing the Fellowship.
- Long-term leadership and advocacy
- Teach For Kosovo will continue to support and work with alumni long after the program ends. As alumni, you will use your experience gained at Teach for Kosovo to become leaders in education, politics, corporations and other sectors. You will continue to be a leader in a movement for equality in education and help promote social and economic progress in Kosovo.
Eligibility Criteria
- They recruit and select talented Kosovar graduates, young professionals and existing teachers from various fields of study to become fellows. They seek young leaders who are open- minded and have exceptional leadership skills.
- Fellows are not required to have teaching experience while applying to the Fellowship Program. If selected for the Fellowship, they will be part of an intensive 5-week training otherwise known as the Summer Institute, where they will prepare for the classes they will teach.
- Be a citizen of Kosovo, 35 years old or younger;
- Have a university degree by September 1, 2023;
- All academic and professional majors are encouraged to apply.
